Teachers Guide for Google Classroom Integration

Teachers can maintain a roster by enrolling students in Google Classroom, link Gradebook columns with Google Classwork assignments, retrieve scores from completed assignments, and list Google Classroom linked columns as coursework on students' portals.


You can link your TeacherPlus Gradebook to Google Classroom. This allows you to Link a Gradebook to a Class in Google Classroom.

Before you start, the Google Classroom integration must be enabled by an administrator in the TeacherPlus Management site.

To link your TeacherPlus Gradebook to Google Classroom for the first time, do the following:

  1. On the top navigation bar, to the right of your school name, click Classroom, and then click Link Account.
  2. Follow the steps in the Sign in with Google pop-up window to sign in to the Google account associated with your Google Classroom.
    After you sign in, your TeacherPlus Gradebook is linked to Google Classroom, and you can begin linking class gradebooks with their corresponding classes in Google Classroom.

To link a Gradebook to a class in Google Classroom, do the following:

  1. In the Score Column Header, to the right of the Gradebook's class name, find the Google Classroom Button:

    You are not currently logged into Google Classroom.

    Link your gradebook to Google Classroom.

     

    • This Gradebook is not linked to any class in Google Classroom.
    • This Gradebook is linked to class [Class Name] in Google Classroom.
    • Click the Google Classroom Button, and then proceed to step 2.
    • You have already linked this Gradebook to a class in Google Classroom. If necessary, you can Unlink a Gradebook from a Class.
  1. In the Link class in Google Classroom dialog box, under Classes in Google Classroom, click the class you want to link with your Gradebook, and then click Link.

    If the class doesn't exist yet, you can click Create New Class to access Google Classroom, where you can create and join classes.

  2. In the Confirmation dialog box, click Yes.
  3. If any students do not have a valid e-mail address, the Google Classroom Invitation dialog box appears and notifies you that One or more students were not sent invitations (with the number of students highlighted). The affected students are listed in the dialog box. Click OK to dismiss this notification.

After you receive a valid e-mail address, these students can be invited to the class using the Google Classroom's Class Code.

Once you've linked your gradebook to a class in Google Classroom, you can add assignment columns that link to Google Classwork assignments.

To create a column and link that column to a Google Classwork Assignment, do the following:

  1. On the Gradebook toolbar, click Add Column.
  2. In the Add Column dialog box, click Link Classwork.
  3. In the Link Classwork dialog box, locate and select the assignment from the list of Google Classwork assignments, and then click Link.
  4. The name, description, possible points, and date are automatically added from the Google Classwork assignment.
  5. Select a Category from the drop-down.
  6. (Optional) Select the Add to PlusPortals as Coursework check box to make this assignment available in your students' portals.

    If you don't select this option when you create the assignment column, you can go back and activate the setting by editing the column.

  1. In the same settings group box as above, do any of the following:
  • Select Lock Column to prevent any changes to the column.
  • Select Count in Averages to count the assignment in the averages.
  • Select Shared (Portals) Column to share the assignment and its score with parents.

 Assignments that count in averages should be made public so that parents can see the assignments that are affecting their child's average.

  1. Click Create Column.

Retrieve a Google Classwork Assignment Scores

Scores retrieved from a Google Classwork assignment cannot be overridden in the TeacherPlus Gradebook. To update a student’s score, it must be modified in Google Classroom. You can then retrieve the grade by clicking the square Google Classroom Button in the TeacherPlus Gradebook column:

You can unlink a gradebook from a class in Google Classroom without losing the assignment columns and scores added through Google Classroom; however, once unlinked, the scores in those columns lock until you link the gradebook and the original class in Google Classroom again.

To unlink your TeacherPlus Gradebook from a class in Google Classroom, do the following:

  1. In the Score Column Header, to the right of the Gradebook's class name, click .
  2. In the Unlink Google Classroom dialog box, click Unlink, and then, in the Confirmation dialog box, click Yes.

To unlink the TeacherPlus Gradebook account from Google Classroom, do the following:

  1. On the top navigation bar, to the right of your school's name, click Classroom, and then click Unlink Account.
  2. In the Warning dialog box, click Unlink.
