Create a Quiz and Add It to a Class
When creating a quiz, you begin by defining general quiz settings, such as the due date, duration, and parent/student visibility. You then create sections and add questions to them. You can create multiple sections containing any combination of essay, true-or-false, multiple-choice, file-upload, and short-answer questions.
Note: Quizzes comprised of all true-or-false and/or multiple-choice questions are graded automatically.
Define Quiz Settings
To begin building your quiz, follow these steps:
- On the Home tab, click for the class you want to add the quiz to, and then click Add Quiz > New.
In Title, type a title for the quiz.
See the diagram and table below for optional settings.

Type a description for the quiz.

Type the length of time in minutes that students have to complete the quiz.
A counter in the student portal displays the time students have left. If you do not specify a duration, the quiz has no time limit.
Note: Students can save their answers and finish the quiz later. If you've set a Duration, the time they have left is saved. For example, if you set the Duration for 10 minutes and a student spends 5 minutes taking the quiz before saving it, the student has 5 minutes left to finish the quiz.

Type the last day students can take the quiz, or click to select the day.

To make the quiz available in the parent and student portals, select the Visible to Parents and Students check box.
Next to Publish Start Date, type the date and time the quiz becomes visible and available for students to take.
Next to Publish End Date, type the date and time the quiz availability ends.
Note: You can also clickto select the start/end date andto select the start/end time.

Select any of the check boxes below:
- Allow Students to attempt multiple times: to allow students to retake the quiz as many times as needed before the due date or before the quiz is graded.
- Score visible to Parents and Students: to allow parents and students to see scores for graded quizzes.
Important: The Make reviewed quiz visible to Parents and Students check box must be selected for scores to display.
- Make reviewed quiz visible to Parents and Students: to allow parents and students to see details of graded quizzes.

Select the check box to add the quiz to your Gradebook, and then define the following settings:
- Select an assignment category.
- Select a marking period.
Important: If the marking period is locked, the quiz will not be added to your Gradebook.
- Type the maximum number of points for the assignment.
- Select the check box to count the quiz in averages.
Note: Assignment categories are set in your Gradebook.

View existing quizzes.
Tip: Edit settings for a quiz by clicking .

Return to the Class page.
Click Save.
To add a section to the quiz, click Next: Add/Edit Section.
Add Sections to a Quiz
When you click Next: Add/Edit Section, the Add/Edit Section panel opens.
To add a section to the quiz, follow the steps below:
- Type a Description for the section.
- Optional: To present the questions to each student in a different order, select the Randomize Questions check box.
- Click Save. The section appears on the right under Description.
- Do one of the following:
- To add questions to the new section, click Next: Add/Edit Question and see Add Questions to a Section below.
- To add another section to the quiz, click New Section and repeat steps 1-3.
Add Questions to a Section
When you click Next: Add/Edit Question, the Add/Edit Question panel opens.
To add questions to the section you just created, follow the steps below:
- In the Question Type drop-down list, select the type of question you want to add.
Important: True-or-false and/or multiple-choice questions are automatically graded. Essay, short-description, or file-upload questions must be graded manually.
- Type the Question. You can use the text editor to format the text and add links, videos, images, and/or tables. (See Edit Content.)
- Optional: Attach files from your computer, Google Driveā¢ online storage service, or Microsoft OneDriveā¢.
- Type the number of Points the question is worth.
- For multiple-choice and true-or-false questions, see the table below for additional steps.

- Click Save, and then click OK.
The question appears on the Show Questions panel.
Tip: Edit or delete questions by clicking Edit or Delete next to the question in the Show Questions panel.
- To add another question to the section, repeat steps 1 through 5.
- When you're finished adding questions, do one of the following:
- To add another section, click Back to Quiz Section.
- To return to the Class page, click Back to Class Summary.
Important: If you selected the Visible to Parents and Students check box on the Add Quiz panel, the quiz appears in the Coursework panel of the parent and student portals on the Publish Date. Students can take the quiz by clicking>Take Quiz in the Actions column.
Copy a Quiz to a Class
You can copy a quiz from a class the previous year or from a class in the current year.
Note: All content and settings from the original quiz are copied with the following exceptions:
- The Due Date field is blank.
- The Visible to Parents and Students check box is cleared.
- The Add to Gradebook as Assignment check box is cleared.
To copy a quiz, follow these steps:
- On the Home tab, click for the class you want to add the quiz to, and then click Add Quiz > From Library.

If you're on the Class Page, click the Overview tab, scroll down to the Class Quizzes panel, and click Add > Quiz from Library.
The Copy quiz from library dialog box opens.
- Next to Copy quiz from, click Previous year or Current year.
- In the Class drop-down list, select the class that contains the quiz you want to copy.
- Select the quiz you want to copy.
- Click Next.
The Quiz Builder opens with the quiz settings displayed on the left Add Quiz panel.
- Edit the quiz settings as needed, and then click Save. (For more information on quiz settings, see Create a Quiz and Add It to a Class.)
- To edit quiz content, click Next: Add/Edit Section.
The Add/Edit Section panel opens.
- On the right panel, click for the section you want to edit.
The section appears on the left panel. - See the table below for editing options.

Edit Quizzes Posted to Your Class Page
You can add, edit, or delete sections and questions for a quiz posted to your class page using the following steps:
- On the Home tab, click the class that contains the quiz you want to edit.
- On the Overview tab, scroll down to the Class Quizzes panel.
- Click for the quiz you want to edit.
The Quiz Builder opens on the Add Quiz panel, which displays the settings for the selected quiz.
- Optional: On the left Add Quiz panel, edit the quiz settings as needed, and then click Save. (For more information on quiz settings, see Create a Quiz and Add It to a Class.)
- Optional: To edit or add sections and/or questions, click Next: Add/Edit Section, and then do any of the following:
- To add a section, click New Section. (See Add Sections to a Quiz in Create a Quiz and Add It to a Class.)
- To delete a section, clicknext to the section you want to delete, and then click Yes.
- To edit a section, click next to the section you want to edit and see the diagram and table below.

Delete a Quiz from a Class
Follow these steps to delete a quiz from a class page:
Important: To delete a quiz already attempted by students, you must first reset the quiz for each of those students. See Grade or Reset a Quiz.
- On the Home tab, click the class that contains the quiz you want to delete.
- On the Overview tab, scroll down to the Class Quizzes panel.
- For the quiz you want to delete, click, and then click Yes to confirm the deletion.
Important: If the quiz was attempted by at least one student, you will receive the following message: "Cannot delete quiz because the quiz has one or more quiz attempts." To delete the quiz, you must first reset it for each student who attempted it. See Grade or Reset a Quiz.
Grade or Reset a Quiz
Using the E-Locker, you can review and grade quizzes that students have taken and, if necessary, reset a quiz for a student. Resetting a quiz deletes the student's previous submission and allows the student to retake the quiz.
Important: Quiz grades must be entered in the Gradebook manually.
To grade or reset a quiz, follow these steps:
- On the Master menu, click the E-Locker tab.
- Click the Quizzes tab.
Important: You will only see the E-Locker tab if your PlusPortals administrator has enabled it.
- Click either Show Lesson Planner Quizzes or Show Class Quizzes.
- Select either All Classes or a specific class from the Class drop-down list.
Quizzes submitted by students appear in the Quizzes tab. Quizzes that need to be reviewed are marked Review Needed in the Review column.
Tip: You can filter items in a column by clicking , or change the order of items in a column by clicking the column heading.
- Do one of the following:
- To reset a quiz, click in the View column, and then click Confirm.
When you reset a quiz, you delete the student's submitted quiz. The quiz data is not stored. If you want to keep a record of the deleted attempt, print the quiz from Quiz Results before you reset the quiz. - To grade a quiz, click .
