Broken Page Anchors

Page Anchors can become broken leading to visitors landing on a 404 page, or editors receiving an error in the builder itself. This is because it is attempting load a page URL that has become broken. This can happen for various reasons, primary amongst them would be the deletion of content that was an anchor. This can also be caused by renaming of items like pages. If you experience an issue with an anchor point the quickest and easiest fix would be to remove the anchor, then re-add it, and republish the site.

To remove an anchor point:

  1. In the Editor, Go to the page where the anchor exists/points to
  2. Right click the content, and choose Edit Anchor. You should see "Edit Anchor" IF the chosen content is indeed an anchor. If you see "Set as Anchor" then the element you have chosen is not an existing anchor.
    • If you cannot find the anchor you can try to add a new anchor with the desired name
    • If the anchor name you are adding says it already exists you will first need to remove the old one.
  3. Alternatively, if the Anchor is showing in the navigation you can access it in the Pages Panel
    • Click the 3-dots next to the Anchor Name in the Pages panel
    • You can choose Delete.
    • You can also Choose Edit and ensure the Page and Anchor Point are correctly selected
      • Here you can correct the Page or Anchor Points selected then republish.
      • IF the Anchor Point does not show up as an option in the list, then it must have been deleted and will need to be recreated on the page.
    • Be sure to republish your site after adding or editing page anchors.
    • Troubleshooting anchors is easier when the anchor is added and showing in the navigation.
    • Ensuring that anchor names used also closely correspond to obvious points on a page helps immensely. For example, have heading text in that section or row of the page with the same name as the anchor.
