Standards: Import Standards

To prepare your school for standards-based grading, you can create a standards import template from the Blank Template or Common Core Template starters we provide. Once you have a complete template, you can import the data into the gradebook management site.

The import process is designed to be completed prior to the start of the school year. Do not use it to modify Standards after the school year begins, and assessments have been administered. Please contact support at [email protected] for assistance with updating standards.

Create a Standards Import Template

  1. Back on the Manage Import page, under Download Template, click one of the following options to download a template to set up a Standards Library for courses:
    NameTemplate Description
    Blank Template
Downloads a template used to define custom standards and link those standards to courses.
    Common Core Template
Downloads a template with common core codes and descriptions to be linked to courses.
  2. Using the template as a starting point, customize the contents for your school. Your finished template should meet the following requirements:
    • The import template header rows (rows 1 & 2) are required to map the standards to the course.
    • Any optional levels (2-Standard, 3-Strand, 4-Master Strand, and 5-Super Strand) must be used in sequence. Levels in the TeacherPlus Gradebook Management site can be renamed later.
    • Each row must contain Code and Description values for each level being used.

For the first import, any level with empty Code or Description fields in every row will be marked as "hidden" in the library. For subsequent imports, all levels marked as "hidden" during the first import are ignored.

Tags should be applied to each grade level to provide clear identification. In conjunction with the Code, Tags serve as a unique identifier for managing and searching the Standards Library.

  1. Save the completed template sheet as a CSV (Comma Delimited) file. The following Excel warning appears: "The selected file type does not support workbooks that contain multiple sheets." Click OK.
  2. To save the completed file in Excel for future reference, click Save As and change the File Type to Excel Workbook.

Import the Standards Template

  1. Click Standards > Library/Tools > Manage Import.
  2. Click Import Standards.
  3. In the Import File Specifications dialog box, select the Import Type.
  4. Next to Select import file, click Choose File, locate, and select the .csv file you just created, and then click Open.
  5. Next to Select import file type, click Comma delimited, and then click Next.
  6. The import wizard maps the fields automatically. Click Next to confirm the mapping.
  7. When the mapping is confirmed, click Import.

Invalid entries are skipped during the import process

  8. When the import process is complete, the Import Information screen lists the number of records imported/updated and the number of invalid entries skipped.
